UMHB Chemistry Department Receives Cutting-Edge Instruments Through Major Donation

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Chemistry Department is expanding its research capabilities thanks to a generous donation from the Robert A. Welch Foundation, providing over $100,000 in state-of-the-art scientific instruments. New additions include Near-Infrared and Raman Spectrophotometers and a digital Peltier temperature-controlled polarimeter.

These tools will give students rare hands-on research opportunities—such as analyzing microplastics, studying pharmaceuticals, and examining materials for recycling—greatly enhancing their scientific experience and career preparation. UMHB officials say the equipment brings industry-level technology into the classroom, opening new doors for advanced learning and discovery.

Midtown Lane Closure Begins May 12 for Drainage Project

Starting Monday, May 12, a section of Midtown Lane (Village Way) near Adams Avenue in Temple will be closed for approximately three months as part of a drainage improvement project. Detours will be available via Adams Avenue, Apache Drive, and Airport Road. Drivers are urged to use caution and follow posted signs. For more information, residents can contact the City of Temple Engineering Department at 254-298-5660.
