Central Texas Leaders Celebrate New Regional Water Alliance

Officials gathered in Belton to mark the passage of Senate Bill 1194, officially creating the Central Texas Water Alliance (CTWA)—a regional authority aimed at planning, conserving, and developing water resources for long-term sustainability.

The CTWA brings together 27 public and private entities, including Bell and McLennan counties, the Clearwater Underground Water Conservation District, and others, to coordinate water efforts across jurisdictional lines for the benefit of over 600,000 residents.

Leaders like Bell County Judge David Blackburn and Dirk Aaron of Clearwater Underground Water emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in addressing growing water demands. The alliance will also have legal authority to acquire, transport, and store water and will pursue state and federal funding opportunities.

A board of directors will be formed between June 15 and August 15, with its first goal being to assess regional water needs and prioritize resource planning for the future.

Amazon to Open New Delivery Station in Belton, Bringing Jobs and Growth

Amazon will soon open a 127,000-square-foot delivery station in Belton, the Belton Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) announced. Located on Capitol Way near I-35, the facility will handle last-mile logistics, routing packages from fulfillment centers to customers.

Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks. Local leaders, including BEDC President Brandon Bozon and Mayor David K. Leigh, praised the project for bringing new jobs, boosting the local tax base, and enhancing delivery service for residents.

Amazon has created over 86,000 jobs in Texas since 2010 and invested more than $70 billion statewide.
