One Year After the Tornado: Temple Reflects on Resilience and Recovery

May 22 marks one year since an EF-2 tornado devastated Temple, damaging hundreds of homes and businesses but miraculously claiming no lives. Over 30 people were injured, and areas like West Adams and Parkfield Lane saw some of the heaviest destruction. Nearby Heidenheimer was also hit by an EF-1 tornado.

In the aftermath, the Temple community came together, offering shelter, food, repairs, and emotional support. From local businesses to national organizations and neighbors helping neighbors, the outpouring of aid was immense.

Stories of survival and rebuilding highlight the city’s strength — from families rescued from crumbling buildings to those still recovering from long-term damage. One year later, the city continues healing, with stronger community bonds and a renewed spirit of hope

Texas House Approves Major Property Tax Cuts for Homeowners

Texas homeowners could soon see larger property tax breaks, as the Texas House unanimously passed key tax relief bills. The proposals include raising the school district homestead exemption from $100,000 to $140,000, and boosting exemptions for seniors and disabled homeowners from $10,000 to $60,000.

Another measure exempts up to $125,000 of business inventory from local taxes. Combined, these efforts are part of a $51 billion plan to reduce property taxes statewide.

The bills now return to the Senate for final approval. Voters will have the final say in November, as the changes require constitutional amendments. Article!
