Fry’s Restaurant in Belton to Close After Nearly a Decade
A beloved fixture in Belton’s dining scene, Fry’s Restaurant will serve its final meals on Sunday, May 18, after nearly 10 years in business. Known for its Southern comfort food and friendly service, Fry’s has been a favorite among locals, especially seniors who appreciated its easy access and welcoming atmosphere.
Co-owner Jorge Jara cited management disagreements as the reason for the closure, despite recent renovations that suggested a long-term future. Signature dishes like chicken fried steak, catfish, and hearty breakfasts earned the restaurant a loyal following.
While Fry’s is closing, Jara hinted at new beginnings, sharing plans to open another sit-down restaurant soon. He thanked the community for years of support, promising that the same great food and service will be offered right up until the final day.
First Baptist Belton Breaks Ground on $23M New Facility
First Baptist Belton has officially broken ground on a new $23 million worship facility, marking a major step toward a modern, unified campus. The new site—located at Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Loop 121—will feature a worship center, Sunday school classrooms, a coffee shop, and more, all designed to serve multiple generations in a welcoming, open environment.
The project, led by Building God’s Way and SB Construction, is expected to take about two years to complete. It follows a land swap agreement with UMHB, which will eventually take ownership of the church’s current Main Street property.
Church leaders emphasize that the project is driven by faith and supported through congregational giving. Donations can be made at fbbelton.org/all-in. Founded in 1853, First Baptist Belton sees this move as a step into its “best days” of ministry and growth.
AirFest 2025 Takes Flight in Temple with High-Flying Thrills and Historic Tributes
The Central Texas AirFest returns this weekend at Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport, featuring world-class aerobatics, military tributes, vintage aircraft, and family-friendly fun. Among the highlights is Australian aerobatics champion Aarron Deliu, who will wow crowds with his intense, in-control-but-looks-out-of-control flying style in his Extra 330sc.
Deliu’s act includes real-time radio commentary as he performs jaw-dropping stunts, including his signature “boomerang” maneuver. Also featured are military canopy jumpers from the All Airborne Battalion, leaping from a rare WWII-era C-49J Southern Cross to honor paratroopers of the past.
New to this year’s event is a Twilight Airshow on Friday night, featuring a performance by The Spazmatics, a dazzling drone show, and twilight aerobatic displays. Saturday brings more aerobatics, formation flying, military demos, food trucks, static aircraft displays, and more.
AirFest Hours:
Friday, May 16: 6–10:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 17: 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
Location: 7720 Airport Road, Temple
